"If
Music be the Food of Love - Then Play on, Let's have an excess of it
!!!"
My thoughts exactly, Desi...
Exposure to the organ first came to me through my
dear husband, Stan...he played piano by ear for many years, and
transitioned to the organ when we moved to Hemet. Our first organ was
a tiny Lowrey, and I discovered that I could make music on it using
all the components within this Genie instrument - I especially liked
a shuffle rythym, and so we started to take classes. It didn't take
us long to realize that we had outgrown our Genie and wanted
something more sophisticated, Working with Desi and Bob we have been
able to afford to upgrade our instruments 8 times - I now have a
Roland 80S and I love the screen - so much easier to read now!
My thanks to Desi and Bob for helping me to
achieve this level of ownership.
Talking about "levels" reminds me that our classes
are a unique character of Desi's Music ... where else would you find
this facet of music in the organ studios. not only in Southern
California, but throughout the country? Kudos to Desi for being the
leader. Our teachers are great - they each have individual styles.
and you can learn something new from each of them, and you only have
to listen to the students' level of playing to know that we have all
progressed as time has gone by.
I think the most important thing to me about
playing the organ is that it helped me through a very rough period of
my life while my Stan was so ill and his death last year. I am so
glad that he was instrumental in getting me interested in playing. I
am happy sitting at the organ, trying out the things we learn about
at the classes and getting better at it as I keep trying. I really
like being able to play for the other students and my friends - AND
BEING TOLD THAT I AM PLAYING BETTER!!!
Thank you, Desi and all my friends there, for all
the hugs & kisses, and the fun we have and for making me know that
"music is the food of love"!!!

Since Margaret and I have been a part of Desi's great program of
"Before and After sale" of our organs (six to be exact), we have made
a lot of new Friends thru the years. This Friendship has turned us
all into a Family. Congratulations Desi on your 20th year as a Leader
of our great "Family". You, Bob Witham and John Kereki are very
special to us. Thank you for all the great memories we have had over
the years and hope to have in the future.

Hi Desi,
In the 1970's I was working for the
California Highway Patrol in the Public Affairs office and the job
was quite demanding so my husband decided to buy me an organ which
was a Lowery Genie 98 and I started taking lessons, that didn't
last long as I was to tired and not up to practicing when I came
home from work so I quit and tried teaching myself, I didn't do
very well but I could play some songs.
In 1985 we sold our mobile home in
Sacramento and moved to the Trinity Alps in northern California.
The place we bought was to small for the organ so I had to sell
it. Many things happened after that and I did not play the organ
again until moving to Hemet in 1998. While reading the paper one
morning I saw your ad about free lessons at Desi's and I didn't
need to have an organ, I thought why not.
I have always enjoyed music and
particularly the organ. That was the best decision I could have
made. Making new and lasting friendships as well as having fun has
been wonderful. I am now on my 4th or 5th organ and am really
enjoy learning about my At-90S. John Kereki is a great teacher and
has taught me so much.
The monthly Atelier classes are fun and
playing for others is quite challenging but rewarding, after the
first couple times you don't shake so much. And finally Desi, you
have provided so much enjoyment for me and many others in the
community and I wish you the very best in your two new stores.
Deryth

I
first
met Desi at the Asilomar Home Organ Festival about eighteen years ago
outside the Kawai booth where he was greeting everyone with his big
smile and big bear hugs and you knew instantly you had met a dear
friend.
Several years later Bob also met Desi at the Asilomar HOA and had the
same impression of him as I did.
I was there at Asilomar when the first Atelier was introduced and since
I was a theater organ buff and used to three manuals I wondered how
that funny looking organ would ever sell.
Boy, was I ever wrong and several years later Bob & I studied the organ
more closely and instantly fell in love with it.
We were not able to buy one at that time but did several years later at
Desi’s HOA in Palm Springs.
Since we lived in Thousand Oaks at that time we were not able to attend
Desi’s classes or workshops and often wished we lived closer so that we
could attend.
When Bob and I became interested in looking at places to retire to,
Desi suggested that we look at the Sun Lakes community in Banning which
we did and bought a home there several days later.
After we moved to Sun Lakes we started attending Desi’s classes,
workshops and concerts and have had the time of our life. We have met
so many wonderful friends there and have become part of a big family
who genuinely care about each other.
Desi has a genuine love for his customers which are truly his
friends. Combine that with John’s marvelous way of teaching and his
gift and talent in registering the songs that he gives out and Bob’s
wit and humor how could you go wrong. Even if you are having a bad day
you come away from Desi’s store with a smile on your face.
What more could anyone ask for than having the enjoyment of our music
and the fellowship of “Old Friends and Dear Friends.”
